Menu Replacement

I'm going to work on a replacement to the current menu. Not sure how it'll work out, but we'll see. It may mean I break the template, but what has been done so far isn't difficult to redo if need be.

New menu partially in place. Most difficult parts will be getting the links to display a different colour, change the font size back. I may open a support topic on the site I got the tutorial to do this from, see if they can help at all.

The other difficult part will be getting things like "log-in" and register to display at the right times... I know you guys did that on the SM portal so maybe you or K could help with that.

If it doesn't work out we can switch to the default. I thought this would be good because of the drop down menus.

If need be and we can't get this working soon, we could in theory do this after we launch the remodel. Do everything else then come back to this.

As far as the log-in and register links, those were on the portal. It was very easy to set that up. (We actually had two widgets. One only showed for guest users, and the other one only showed for registered users. )

The menu does look nice, though. I like the drop down menus. Especially since it gets very crowded with the SM2 layout and all of the links, it's really a great cleanup.

Oh lovely... I have a feeling that'll require a redo as far as the remplate goes. Nothing major, just copy and paste to the template. I have adblock so I don't notice that.

I haven't fixed the menu yet, but did add the filecave links in. xD

I know how that goes. It took me about two days to get the rating to display on the filecave

NO progress on the fixing front, but I opened a support topic. Hopefully they have a solution. I wouldn't want to have to go back to other menu.

I think that even without all of the custom CSS, the theme still looked pretty good. If we can get the tabs on the bottom, the search bar to look right, and the wider page, that's probably all that we'll need to do there.

Had any luck yet with that support forum?

Yea, I think so too. But I'd really like to do the CSS editing since it is such a popular theme on FM, give it a different look. The menu could always come later. We do have the power to remove useless menu items (including memberlist, search, etc.) with code... yay! But the tabs and cusotm search are a must. Something else I'd like to do is replace the "new" "no new" post icons, the current ones are not the greatest.

One last thing: Any timeline yet? The days I can help out or pretty selective over the next while.

Having new icons would be a help, LOL :p

As far as the timeline, I think we should give another week in terms of general prep, then launch the project full swing as soon as you and I are both available.

Yay, menu fixed! Only thing left to figure out is log in/register/log out.

May have gifured out how to make seperate menus for guests and users. It would mean coding 2 menus, but meh. Mostly just copy/pasting. I will let you know how it goes, prob work on it Sunday/Saturday.

I don't really mind coding two separate menus. We had to do that with the portal widget at SM2 already, so I think it could work.

Also, check my PM at Simmania. We might be in business.

Menu has smaller font and rounded corners now... yay! Font may be a bit too small though, may increase it one size...

Unfortunately we're stuck with the blue coloured links... :/

We can change the link colors in the theme. The colors actually don't bother me that much, though.

I just changed the colours to be a lighter blue, that may be why. They were much darker, a bit harder to read. This blue works well, as you say.

We're getting close to done, on the menu front. Woo!
